Senior Farmers Market Nutrition

The program provides eligible older adults with a booklet of checks ($50) that can be spent at participating farmers’ markets and roadside stands to purchase fresh, Iowa grown fruits, vegetables, herbs, and honey.

Food Recovery at the Perry Public Library

In collaboration with local entities, the library will offer free recovered food items to Perry residents when available and while supplies last. Food is picked up from local stores on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings and put in the community fridge if available. Supply Hive volunteers bring recovered food from Des Moines on some Thursdays (schedule varies), when available. 

Perry Lutheran Home Meals on Wheels

Perry Lutheran Homes Meals on Wheels focuses on caring for older adults or others in need who are homebound because of illness, physical or mental impairment, who are unable to shop for food and/or prepare food independently, or who are otherwise isolated.

Meals are available at an already low cost of $8.95, and that cost may be further reduced or eliminated due to a client's financial situation.

The Salvation Army of Des Moines

The Salvation Army helps with rent, utilities, gas, personal care items, food, and other information. For more specific information about services offered, contact the Salvation Army at 515-282-3599.

On the 3rd Monday of each month, they are inside the Perry Public Library, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, with a break for lunch.

Hunger Free Dallas County (HFDC) is proud to introduce The Food GRID which will assist us in Growing, Rescuing, Identifying, and Directing food throughout Dallas County, Iowa.

Nutritious free meals are available for children and teens 18 and younger at many locations throughout the nation throughout the summer while school is out of session. If summer meals are available in Perry, they will be listed here.

 

Dallas County Seed Library at the Perry Public Library

This project helps preserve heirloom seeds and native plants appropriate for cultivation in our area by distributing open pollinated heirloom seeds FREE to Dallas County gardeners from seed libraries located throughout the county.
